What is the Aptis Exam?

Aptis is an innovative and customisable English Language Test prepared by the British Council to assist organisations and students with the aim to help with the assessment of candidates English language understanding and ability to use it in various context.

The test constitutes of 5 main parts namely:

  1. English Vocabulary and Grammer (compulsory)
  2. Reading 
  3. Writing
  4. Listening
  5. Speaking

Aptis tests are customisable test according to the organisation’s requirement. Even the brand name of the organisation can be integrated into the test according to the requirement. 

The test is mainly designed to be an assessment test for organisations with the flexibility to assess their candidate’s English language capabilities according to the requirement without the need to develop the technical know-how and hassle of test preparation.

Aptis test is developed by the British Council used by private and government organisations, academic institutions and Non-profit organisations(NGO) for recruitment, performance analyses and other purposes that require English Language abilities analysis.

What are the different modes of Test?

The test is can be taken in three different modes:

  1. Paper-based
  2. Computer-Based
  3. Telephone-based

How much does the APTIS exam cost?

The Aptis General and Aptis for Teachers fee is variable depending from country to country and updated regularly. Check the official British Council website for the updated information.

What are the Documents required for Aptis Test Registration?

Documents required for Aptis Test Registration are:

  • registration form
  • copy of your ID document (a valid passport or ID card) – this should be the same ID document that you will use for identification on the test day
  • bank deposit slip – 

If you are emailing the documents send the scan or legible photo of the bank payment slip and the above documents to the registration locations.

Grammar and Vocabulary

Grammar and Vocabulary section of the test which is a compulsory section of the test has 25 questions each with the total time limit of 25 minutes for this section.

The section consists of two parts: Grammer(25 Questions) and Vocabulary Section (25 Questions).

The audio recording can be played(optional) up to two times in a computerised test and played twice in the paper-based test.

APTIS Exam Results

Numerical Score:

Score is presented on a scale of 0-50 for each test module along with the Grammar and Vocabulary module.

CEFR(Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) level by Skill:

A level is assigned to each skill test taken by the student. Each CEFR band describes competency in a specific module of English Language presented in the report.
